The Christ Child Society of the Quad Cities is excited to introduce Alyssa Leone, a valued board member and our passionate Literacy Coordinator. With a heart for service and a deep commitment to early childhood education, Alyssa brings energy, compassion, and a teacher’s perspective to our mission of helping children and families in need.
Alyssa joined the Christ Child Society board five years ago after learning about the organization through a friend who attended an informational meeting. As an early elementary teacher, she was immediately drawn to CCSQC’s strong focus on early literacy and outreach to those less fortunate. Today, Alyssa serves as the Literacy Coordinator, leading initiatives with the Head Start programs in the Rock Island School District. She facilitates events that promote early literacy and encourages family engagement through reading activities. One of her favorite projects is organizing Head Start Family Literacy Nights, where she witnesses firsthand the joy and connection that comes from parents and children reading together.
When asked about the most rewarding part of serving on the board, Alyssa shared, “It’s the collective commitment to serve others in need.” Her advice to anyone considering joining CCSQC is simple: “Come to an event and see what CCS has to offer. I guarantee you’ll be immediately drawn in!”
Alyssa’s passion for Christ Child Society’s mission is fueled by a desire to help others and make a lasting difference in children’s lives. Through her involvement, she has grown in compassion and kindness, gaining a deeper sense of empathy. One memory that stands out to her is seeing families fully engaged during literacy nights, an experience that continually reaffirms her commitment to the work CCSQC does. “You never know what others are going through, so have empathy,” she reflects — a value she carries in every interaction.
Looking ahead, Alyssa hopes to see Christ Child Society continue its strong partnership with the Rock Island Head Start programs. She’s excited for upcoming events like the Head Start end-of-the-year celebration and encourages anyone interested to volunteer. "We’re always looking for more helping hands!" In the next five years, she envisions CCSQC continuing to expand its impact by nurturing early literacy skills in the community’s youngest learners.
Outside of her volunteer work, Alyssa leads an active lifestyle, enjoying running, biking, hiking, and spending time with friends and family at the beach. Fun fact: She has completed 13 half-marathons and plans to run one or two more this summer and fall. She draws inspiration from her grandmothers, who were strong, faith-filled Catholic women, and stays spiritually grounded through her home parish, Sacred Heart Rock Island. Alyssa’s boyfriend, Patrick, is a proud supporter of her many endeavors. When asked to describe Christ Child Society in three words, Alyssa chose: “Fun with friends!”
